DESIGNER | EDDIE COLLINS

Interior Designer, Eddie Collins, has an uncanny ability to combine his own vision, along with his clients’ ideas for a space, and create something truly magical. We absolutely love the house of Jeff Wright, and Vanessa Di Palma Wright, and their collaboration with Eddie is a must-see. His thoughts on the project are a testament to his creative process, and design perspective.

What did you love most about this project? The transformation of the room. Prior, it was dark, rustic, crowded, and uninviting. The clients: husband and wife- Jeff and Vanessa Wright had equal input and I feel it is a room that represents them both. We decided to go with shades of white, gray, and black, in a Parisian style but still keep it interesting. We did that by using custom Ralph Lauren linen black and white color blocked drapes, different textiles and patterns ranging from the Madeline Weinrib Brooke rug, Mu Ikat pillow, and the graphic custom Mary McDonald Vanderbilt velvet pillows. I also love the shell back chairs that were Jeff’s Great Grandmothers from the 1920’s, that were reupholstered in white linen with a slight metallic and silver nail heads.

What are some of your favorite design elements? The art: Ellsworth Kelly works on paper that flank the main mirror behind the sofa, as well the juxtaposing portrait painting from the 1400’s with the modern Ushio Shinohara. The furnishings: The combination of the British console table, circa 1800’s with the black Bourgie Kartell lamp in the foyer. The modern lines of the custom Barclay Buttera Brentwood sofa with a tufted back and silver nail heads. Gold and silver used  together: I feel this is the jewelry of the room. I’m happy to see more people doing it whether you call it ‘brass and chrome’ or ‘gold and silver,’ it keeps the room from being predictable and monotonous.  It reminds me of a two toned Cartier love bracelet. Jeff and Vanessa’s gold Buddha, from Thailand circa 1500’s, that greets you as you enter the home is also one of my favorite pieces.

Where did you gather inspiration? We gathered inspiration from their fondness of travel and culture. Jeff’s collection of art and antiques with Vanessa’s modern flair for timeless, elegant, style and love of fashion.

Tell us about the grey door and its hardware?  Credit for the grey front door goes to Elizabeth Kimberly. It’s an incredible piece with significant hardware.  The color and sheen make a dramatic statement to the room.  Brilliant.

Tell us a little bit about your other work and why you love what you do. I have had the opportunity to work on homes, condos, and retail spaces. I have always had a love, passion, and appreciation for interior design of all genres. As a kid I use to drive my Mom crazy and re-arrange all the furniture while she was at work. I’m constantly inspired by history, film, people, and architecture.  Besides getting to be creative and collaborative, I love watching the client’s style and interest come alive whether it be empty nesters taking that leap and buying a condo downtown, the joy a family feels creating a vacation home that feels like a home away from home, or the excitement of the entrepreneur opening their store. I am so honored to co-create with the client and be part of the design process. In the end, I think it is important for the client to feel comfortable and good in their space because when that happens, guests can feel it, and to me that makes a successful room.
