It seems that almost the second we start to see those Spring bulbs pop up out of the mulch, we are already thinking about patio parties and casual evenings gathered around the lawn…wine in hand, of course. Utah is hitting that sweet spot where patio parties are actually feasible, and we thought you’d like to draw some inspiration from one that we threw last Spring.
The lawn and patio were adorned with sail canopies and patio lights. Take note that visually, you can make a huge impact by illuminating a space and framing it with some simple sails. The flowers used were weed growth painted gold, and the main table featured gorgeous olive-like branches. Natural décor elements bring warmth to a space, while keeping it fresh and thoughtful. We threw blankets on the lawn for seating, and that seemed to be the favorite gathering place for guests.
In terms of food, we kept the evening simple, but delicious. The best way to throw the perfect party without stressing over food is to order a specialty item from a bakery or caterer, then complete the meal with dips, and one simple (but delectable) appetizer. We don’t like to spend time fussing over food, because what is the point of having a party if you spend the entire evening preparing versus enjoying your company? We served a fruit water made with strawberries and kiwi (cut up your fruit and put it in water 2 hours before the party), and a Chardonnay by Cupcake, which is one of our favorite $9 bottles of white. We served miniature cupcakes for dessert, which were definitely a hit, especially for the kids. It was an effortless evening, and one that left us asking why we don’t do this more often.
Happy Spring & throw yourself a party!
