FASHION WEEK WITH THE FASHION FUSE

Story by Katie Krongard

Our resident fashion and style guru, Angie Wilson from the Fashion Fuse, made the trip to New York creating envy across the interwebs as she instagrammed her travels and her gorgeous looks for her seat at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. We asked Angie to guest write for us to talk about her trip highlight and get a little taste of exactly what it is like to attend NYFW.  Read about her favorite moment, and see a few of her looks below. Follow her via social media to get styling tips and tricks, and the occasional glimpse into her wardrobe.

Maybe next time she will pack us in her suitcase…

As a new blogger (just shy of a year) I was excited and somewhat intimidated by the idea of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. I had been to couple events in the past, but never to the shows in the tents at the Lincoln Center. It was just like an episode of Sex In The City!

This most recent MBFW (Spring 2015) was my second time attending, so navigating the events that went from upper Manhattan all the way down to SOHO went a lot smoother. My trip highlight during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week was by far the Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2015 presentation.

I was thrilled when my assistant Chelsea told me that I was invited to his show. I am pretty sure I gave her a little squeal of delight over the phone. Since I had never been to one of his events, I didn’t know what to expect other than the fact that he is designer royalty and purely classic Americana. When you think of American Designers, you think Ralph, Tommy, and Michael dominating every department store across the states. Dressed in my favorite piece from this trip (a studded Zimmerman dress) I jumped in the car and was on my way. When I pulled up to the venue (The Park Avenue Armory) I saw a sea of paparazzi. I couldn’t see who they were photographing because there were groups of them everywhere! There was a split second where I wondered “what if I am actually not on the invite list?” I swallowed my momentary anxiety and stepped out of the car with my chin held high. It was chaos outside, so I made my way in as quickly as possible.

As I checked in I heard the PR guy next to me receive a message on his headset that Anna Wintour (the queen bee) was making her way in. Sure enough the frail thin boss of a woman breezed right past me sunglasses and all; you better believe she kept them on the entire show! Every major fashion blogger, fashion editor, and stylish celebrity were in attendance; many of whom I stalk on social media.

As I walked into the venue I was amazed at the vastness of it; It was the biggest runway I had ever seen. The sounds of the Beatles and visuals of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band including hand painted gardens of fresh flowers welcomed guests into a 60s themed dream world. I have never tried drugs, but I would imagine this is what tripping out would feel like.

The show began shortly after taking my seat. I was immediately taken in by Tommy’s 60s glam designs. Well that, and the fact that Kendall Jenner and Georgia May Jagger were the babes modeling the frocks. Leather bell bottoms, knee high boots, big collars, capes, military coats, and bikini tops took me back to the good old Woodstock era. The energy was high and everyone was excited!

As the show wrapped up, Tommy came out and took his bow, and everyone cheered…well, as much as fashion insiders do. They can be a tough crowd. Well dressed…but tough. There wasn’t a second I didn’t feel fortunate to be there and grateful to be doing what I love. It was Tommy’s own Rock Festival and I was a witness to it!
